eRecovery question-How do I get my Backup file opened that was password protected

I Had to use eRecovery utility to restart my netbbok...I chose Option #2 tha Restores the operating system and retains User data.

Worked good...the retained user data was put in a file C\Backup...good so far...now I cannot get the data because it was originally PW protected in my previous windows setup....I know the data is in  there because the HD is about the capacity pre eRecovery mode.

When I try to open the folre in my backup file I get the error message' Access Denied'

Any ideas?

I forget precisely how to do this as it was some time ago that I needed to do this but try going to "my computer" in control panel and right click on the drive/files...you should get some options come up and you need to change the permissions to gain access...there`s either an option to change the permissions here or try "properties"...then there may be a security tab that you need to enter...then "edit" to change permissions etc...I`m sorry not to recall exactly but it`s not too hard to find the right way to gain access to the files.

Are you aware of the Hirens Boot disc ?

There are too many programs to list here but there are password removal tools, backup and recovery tools etc...it is all free to download and the programs are excellent at helping resolve problems...the first link is a write up with information about the programs available and the second link is for downloading the latest version...I have used this for several different types of problems and it has always resolved them...even if sometimes I`ve not quite known how !!

There is an unzipper that downloads with the programs.

Hi-  I'm having the same issue with my Aspire netbook D255. I had a virus, and used the eRecovery tool with Option 2 that retains the user data.  I'm hoping that the data is saved on the C: drive.  I backed-up the data with an external hard drive, and that worked.  Hope this helps.
