W510 - Driver package 2.11 - Why no updated graphics drivers????

I just downloaded and installed the new driver package with firmware update, along with the new wireless LAN driver. Especially the second was much needed because of the battery draining issue.

I rebooted after the installation opened google earth and yes it got frozen again...checked the graphics driver version and found STILL the old version 9.14.3.1102 dated 2/11/2012. Why do we still have to hack our way into installing on our own the newer version through ripping the driver from other manufacturers? Is it so hard to include version 9.14.1130 (8/1/2013) or even the newer one version 9.14.3.1142 dated 22/2/2013 that the HP users (for the HP Envy x2) got the same day you uploaded 2.11 for us?

Why do you do this to your company image?

Use the GFX driver from the Envy, there's only a small section in the .inf file that needs changing. Most of the other drivers will work fine too . . . !

I have already done that...I had some trouble installing 9.14.3.1142, there was an error message, but 9.14.1130 installs ok.

The thing is why do I have to get into BIOS, disable secure boot options (this option is reverted back to enabled after the firmware update), go into windows, enable test mode in order to disable driver signing, reboot, install drivers, reboot again and finally disable test mode?

Would it be that hard for ACER to include everything in the updated driver package?

Just leave the driver signing disabled, makes it easier for the next driver update !

Could someone write a small tutorial on how to install the newer graphics drives? I'm searching the internet on editing the INF file of the driver, but I'm lost. Hope someone could give some help.

Or anyone who could give me the lines I should replace with the new lines in the .inf file? I think I can manage the other parts of the process.

Swap the [KMD.Mfg] section from the HP drivers with the one from the Acer drivers. You will need to disable driver signing on Win 8 (Google should take care of that !). Then just update driver from device manager, let me choose my own, browse and point to the folder with the .inf you have just modified !

But, where can we find the HP graphic driver ? I searched on HP support site and found only an .exe that is chipset driver ?

Use 7zip to extract the driver package from the .exe !

I was able to extract the driver ... but the rest of the process is just too uncertain for me ...

After installation, I ended with a screen brightness stuck at the max value ...

So i finally went back to the official driver.

I'll wait for an updated driver, I think !

Reading through this thread, I see you all are trying to update the graphics drivers from other manufacturers. Can you all provide me with the issues that the current driver (9.14.3.1102) is causing? I see the original complaint regarding Google Earth, but I'm certain there are others. What driver versions you're trying, if as a community, you all have a preferred driver, what version is it, and what performance increases or issues are you expecting to be fixed with these drivers? I've already sent some information over to our engineers, and anything you all can provide me will be passed on as well.

I have tried two versions:

1) 9.14.1130 (8/1/2013)

2) 9.14.3.1142 (22/2/2013)

both have been extracted from the HP Envy x2 driver package.

With the second one I run into trouble while installing and as such I continue to use the first one.

Google earth might be considered a minor glitch, but I use it constantly.

The problem is that intel does not make public these drivers for this chipset as it does for the rest of their chipsets. If we could get it from intel we would download only firmware updates from Acer and not care about it.

We have reported the problems described while using Google Earth, and have a possible work around. If you are experiencing problems running Google Earth, try the steps below to see if they resolve your issue.

1. Open Google Earth
2. Select Tools, then click Options
3. Change the graphics mode to ”openGL”
4. Click Apply, then select Ok.
5. Re-launch Google Earth, and choose “No” when prompted to use Direct X.

You should now be able to use Google Earth with no errors.

If you are having other issues that you feel are related to the video driver, please provide additional details, so we can look into it.

I did a little necroing of my old thread to post my recent findings, but it kind of relates to this thread as well.

I keep trying to find updated graphics drivers to get the CTRL + ALT + F11 panel fitting macro to work on the Aceri Iconia W510. It is my assumption that they SHOULD do something, but however many hundred of times I press the macro, it does nothing.

I didn't know if this was a windows 8 thing, or a driver thing, or a hardware thing, but this weekend I had the chance to verify that other brands and machines can get CTRL + ALT + F11 to give fullscreen without panels. So it is not the OS, and the problem can only be hardware or drivers now.

Hardware, I'll just have to buy another PC. If it is drivers though, then I'd REALLY appreciate getting new ones.

With the ENvy drivers can someone test the "maintain aspect ratio"? My problem is I own lots of gog.com games that are from the 90's ..mm7..fallout1/2.. baldur's gate.. none of these have res adjustments so when they run they are small at their resolution surrounded by black. My desktop computer will do the same but has a selection for "maintain aspect ratio" and it will stretch them to full screen. I'm just wondering if I install the newer envy drivers will this work? I will probably try after work today but it looks to be a bit of an ordeal. Also do those newer video drivers offer any better gaming fps?

so I downloaded the envy driver and installed it.. easy enough.. extracted the graphics folder from the exe(i'll include the link). Once you've extracted the graphics folder and know where it's located.. go to control panel>device manager>display adapters>intelgraphics>>driver tab>>update driver>>browse>>letmepick>>havedisk>>browse to your graphics folder/subfolder and either .inf files work. My driver shows 2/22/13 and driver version 9.14.3.1142. It rebooted and everything works fine but I get the windows manufacturer warning.. but I just click "more info" and run anyway. Also the tray icon is gone to adjust some stuff? I hardly ever reboot and it's and easy 2 clicks. All that being said I haven't noticed any differences although I'm not sure what improvements there are supposed to be.
