Hello,

I would like to ask the specialists in this forum a question.

I would like to buy a Car charger for my Acer Aspire One 753.

The DC output on my Acer is 19V 2.15Amp/h 40W

I have found 2 car chargers but the problem is that this is their DC output

-19V 1.6Amp/h  30W the first one

-19V 3.47Amp/h 60W the second one

I dont know which to choose and which is better, because in case if my battery goes bad i need to use this DC directly to power up the notebook(when the battery is removed)

I have had contacted Acer Tech support and they said that they have no idea as they handle software only(suppose to be tech support).

Any help appreciated.

Thank you

    Hi,

You can use the first one i mean 19V 1.6Amp/h  30W.The second one is danger for you laptop because the Amps is HIGHER.

If you found another charger with the same features it will be better

    Hope helps you

Actually, the one with the higher amps  is better.  The voltage on the charger and the resistance from the laptop determines how many amps the laptop will draw.  Using the lower amperage charger will not fully power the laptop and may cause the voltage out of the charger to drop.  Use the one with the same voltage and an amp rating equal to or higher than the amps required.

LeoS is correct. Buy the bigger amperage charger.

Your computer will only draw the amperage it needs for the required power (Watts).  For example, I have a 7.1 amp capable charger but the computer is only drawing 2.1 amps (for 49 Watts at idle).  There is nothing magical about the nth decimal value of the original charger's rated amperage. The charger was chosen on the basis of cost and meeting the expected maximum draw from the computer.

    I concur.

Using a charger rated at a higher amperage is not harmful at all.

A laptop, or any appliance, will only draw what it needs. For example, putting a 12v 60w bulb across a car battery will draw 5 amps as you would expect even though the battery may be more than capable of supplying a few hundred amps!!

Consequently, as long as you select a charger of 19v (you must use the required voltage) and an amperage rating >= 2.15A you will be fine. As stated, going under required amps will cause the voltage to drop and can only be bad for both laptop and charger.
