acer aspire 5741-5979 video card problem?

Hello!

I have tried to solve this issue myself for some time now but it doesn't seem to go away. I started having a problem extending my screen to another monitor about 6 months ago. Nothing happened in between when I was able to before and when it stopped working (ie an update, installed new program etc).

I have tried updating my video card driver but that didn't work. I have made sure it has not been the cables or the monitors, because I have tried it with many cables on several different monitors. I have tried the monitors that used to work and new ones and it still does not work. On my acer laptop, it is the Fn f5 function i want to use,but it does nothing.

What makes the problem more complicated is that my computer detects inputted monitors or devices and it can see them when I am about to switch my monitor or try for multiple monitors. But it will not switch when a new monitor is plugged in, detected, and I switch the screen. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!

I have a windows 7 home premium, 64 bit. processor Intel(R) core(TM) i3 cpu. The video card is Intel(R) hd graphics

Cheers

The first objective would be to determine if it is a hardware or software issue.

The easiest process is to restore the system to factory defaults with eRecovery to remove any software additions or changes and test the additional monitor with the  Fn+ keys.

If it fails to operate correctly with the default factory system restored, you would need to contact support for service on the hardware.
