Acer E1-571-6680 crashed

My laptop is barely a week old and Windows 8 no longer boots. I tried all possible recovery solutions (I do not have a restore DVD), but all I get is a black screen. Now all of a sudden the drive is completely empty. I have a spare copy of Win7 Pro, but every time I try to install it via DVD (under Legacy BIOS and both AHCI and IDE modes), it fails at 60% extracting. If I try to install via a USB drive, it fails at 13% every time.

1) Can Win7 even be installed on this machine?

2) Any possible solutions for the HDD? I confirmed no bad sectors. I tried a known good HDD and it fails in the exact same spot. I ran both Windows Memory Diagnostic and Memtest64+, and found no RAM errors.

Please advise.
