Donated Aspire laptop with no OS

Our church was recently given an Aspire SNID: [edited for privacy]and it will not boot.  We want to reload Vista and use it for our youth programs.  I have tried the F10 at startup and get told the ntoskrn1 is missing or corrupt.  Is there any way we can make use of this donation or is it a piece of junk that we need to throw away?

Thanks

Marvin

Corrupted startup files. (According to the output)

If at all possible, just reinstall windows.

    or...

--Can try loading in safe mode. (would have to let us know if this works)

    1.      Turn the computer on or Restart the computer

    2.      Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu appears.

If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.

    3.      Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.

    4.      Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

--Another thing that may work would be to try to unplug all the external hardware devices from the machine and then start the computer.

Sometimes, an external hardware may cause issues during the boot process.

    Thanks for hte reply but...

Had tried that and tried again with your instructions.

Windows falied to lod because the kernel is missing or corupt.  The file is \windows\system32\ntokrn1.exe.

My thoughts were to try to get a copy from somehwere adn copy it to the directory and off  woud go.  I can't even get a C:\ to copy if I could gt the file.  I usspect I need the OEM Vista cd to get this thing going and can't find  source for it either.  Any suggestions?

    Will just have to reinstall.

If you ask around (probably more so at a church) Im sure someone will have a copy of win xp/vista/7 (whatever) that will work just fine on that machine.

Otherwise, check amazon or somesuch, Im sure you guys can find an older OS on the cheap Smiley Wink
