Hi,

I bought an ACER computer 2 months ago and I'm trying to install a serial port enpansion card in one of the PCI Express x1 Slot. When I try to start the computer after installing the expansion card in the PCI Express x1 slot (and connecting the 4 pins wire on it) the computer get stuck at the ACER page and doesn't reach windows 8. When I unplug the expansion card the computer boot normally. I understand that the expansion card is not compatible with the computer and I wanted to know if someone knows a model of serial port expansion card that is compatible with my ACER computer. Note that I undated the BIOS of the computer and it still doesn't work.

The model of the computer is the following: Acer Aspire M3420 running on Windows 8, 64 bits

The model of the card I tried to install is the following: StarTech 2 Port Native PCI Express RS232 Serial Adapter Card with 16550 UART (# PEX2S553)

Thank you in advance,

This is a quote from another thread, and although I havent had personal experience with this issue, it sounds like it may be worth a shot in your case.

You need first to enter the bios when the graphics card that comes with the computer is still installed.

Just press the del key on startup.

Then makes the 2 following change in the bios:

1- Change Authentification to: disable secure boot.

This enables the bios to manage equipment not installed originally.

2- Change Launch CSM to: always.

    Then save your new settings.

    The computer will reboot.

Shut it down to install your new graphic card or SSD, HDD...

Reboot and everything should be fine.

(This was advice to another who was having a similar problem gfx card in his case causing issues)
