Fantastic performance using START8 on my M5-581tg with 128gb SSD running WIN8 but I have 2 issues:

(1)

Sometimes when I touch the Trackpad, the Desktop icons resize themselves as if by magic.  I revert to my chosen size icons by inserting a mouse then use the mouse's scroll wheel, whilst depressing the M5's Control button, to reszie.  However, how can I stop the issue happening in the first place.

I do not understand the relationship, if any, between Desktop (obviously I am seeing the START8 desktop) and the WIN8 tiles screen insofar as software is concerned.  When I loaded a Java update, for example, I got the message that "this Java update will only operate from Desktop".  This made me wonder, is software loaded via WIN8 tiles used or stored differently from the processes via Desktop.  I needed to load Skype on Desktop because even through it was apparently pre-installed in WIN8, I could  not get it to start.  All this comes together when I see that after loading some regular programmes like Office, Skype, CC Cleaner etc I have only 60gb free from the original 128gb SSD.

It is possible that WIN8-loaded programmes are not visible from looking in c:\program files and thus I have kind of duplicated programme files ?

Is this somehow anything to do with what I assume to be |Win8's preference for users to buy new programmes from their Windows store instead of loading from disc ?

Clearly I am having problems understanding how programmes are loaded and stored in WIN8.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Have a look at the Touchpad control panel.

You may simply be activating the Zoom feature. (You should have the ability to reverse the zoom without the need to use a mouse.)

I have removed Win8 in favour of Win7 so I cannot help with your other issues.

The M5-581TG is a great machine isn't it! Smiley Happy
