Quick summary: How can I actually reinstall the recovery partition onto a new hard disk, not simply recover Windows with the USB backup of the revovery partition?
Recover the recover partition: One of the first things Acer suggests when the V5 is first used is to make a backup of the recovery partition. I did so onto a USB thumb drive. As a test I set the drive in BIOS from UEFI to LEGACY. It seems a V5 will not boot a CD or USB unless it is in LEGACY mode. It must be switched for example to restore an image backup made with the Acer Backup utility.
So the question is this. How then does one actually recover the recovery partition? For example, say I have concerns about the drive and want to use a tool like Seagate’s SeaTools to completely check and “zero” out the drive. Then restore the recovery partition, and next recover the PC for a clean fresh start.
I see drive device mismatch errors using the Microsoft “Windows 7” backup, a tool I prefer because the restores I’ve see are **PERFECT** every time. However when creating a MS image backup I’m getting what looks like (but is not) a CLSID warning. No storage errors, VSS is running as is the backup service. Before I will have confidence in the process I want to eliminate any ID errors. I think “zero” out the drive and restore the recovery partition first. Any ideas?
