w510 sleep mode problem

i had the iconia w510 without the keyboard and did not have this problem but i exchanged it for the one that came with the keyboard and now every time he system goes to sleep after periods of inactivity, pressing the power button does not wake up the machine.  pressing on the windows button does a "buzzing" action but the screen is still black.  the only way to get the machine working again is to hold the power button for 10 seconds to shut down and restarting the PC.  I have done all the windows udate but it does not fix the problem.  Any ideas?  do i have a defective tablet or is this a problem with the model that comes with the keyboard?

    Hi,

There are updated drivers available on the Acer Support website. Please download the "W510 Driver Package". Unzip the contents and run the setup. You will need to have the machine on charge. This will update drivers and update unit to the latest BIOS.

    Thanks

I have updated the latest drivers, but the sleep mode problem did not go away Smiley Sad

My unit does not wake from sleep at all without reboot. Lame. Also have the wifi-problem and flakey touchpad still...

I have a w510 and have the same problem even after the updated drivers from acer were installed. It goes to sleep and doesn't wake up, though at times the windows button will still provide haptic feedback when you press it.

    Hi drxadium,

I would also try to do a windows update and install latest updates. Also see if the machoine shutsdown/restarts properly.

If this fails I would try restore the system as it maybe corrupt ACPI - power management file causing the machine not come

    out of sleep.

I have the same problem with sleep.  I disabled sleep in power management and it still goes to sleep and will not wake up.  I also note wireless connectivity at ~1/5 the speed of my laptop.  In addtion, I have the trackpad problem which in and of itself is enough to drive me to distraction -- just registering for this forum was frustrating using it.  I've also noticed some intermittent keystrokes being dropped from my keyboard.  I've upgraded to the very latest bios an drivers (from ~3days ago).  I've also reinitialized my tablet once already.

This is a very frustrating experience since this otherwise is a VERY interesting tablet with some really excellent features and capabilities.

It would be nice if the table could support protected content without an hdmi or vga cable.  I cannot use my directv2pc application nor stream amazon HD content to it.

for starters you have to go in control panel and go to Power Options (Balance) and shut it off to never in sleep mode/display/engery saver. Than hit advanced options underneath and shut it off completey cause these settings will still hold. There is also a method..Google it .....where you dont have to put in the password anymore and it never goes to that screen again. Regardless above all elsenthe new update only fixed the connection issue with the net.You have to manually change these settings yourself.

Hello, I also have the two same problems:

    - the screen does not switch on again, power button does not do anything while the Windows key makes the tablet to "buzz"

    - the connected standby feature does not seem to work everything. Many times I can see the wireless icon to be with the yellow icon, then with the icon showing a star, then the normal connected icon. So this means that many times, it is not really "always connected" as it should be.

i bought my tablet two days ago and have the same problem already twice

when I donwload the update (by the way don't know why the download does not work properly on the tablet, had to download it elsewhere and put in on a stick) it says i already have the same or newer drivers...

I have the same problem, even after installing all updates.

Unbelievable that Acer did not yet give some official information and/or solution for this problem that already exists for several months.

This tables is unusable the way it has been designed for.

Acer ... please come with a real solution ASAP.

    Hello,

My very first contribution, with this horrible issue.

I'm totally agree with the severity of the issue, this behaviour is driving me nuts! W510 was designed as a tablet, but with that poor results in power management, and "sleep death" issues, is a no-go as a tablet.

I've tried partial restore, full wipe restore, every update I can find from Acer ow Microsoft, but the issue remains there.

My two cents on the topic is to blame "always on" feature, in my test I discovered better results if you enable plane mode before getting to sleep. But it's a poor workaround, I think we deserve full feature operation.

I hope Acer comes with a solution soon...

I have the exact same sleep mode issues and they seem to be more frequent when I do charge the tablet while docked to the keyboard. Looks to me like if I charge the keyboard individually and the tablet individually, it seems to wake-up without the display issue.

I just realised while typing this I have similar issues with my desktop PC running Windows8; when it comes back from sleep the video drivers don't kick-in and I have to hard-reboot. Could be a Windows8 issue and nothing to do with this Acer device itself. I could be wrong also; I'll let you guys know if I find out anything on this.

Anyways, I just wanted to post hoping Acer will notice this issue and provide solutions... I might also try the dreaded tech support... Anyone contacted tech suupport abnout this?

I had the same problem with the sleep mode. Had to hold down the on/off switch to turn off the tablet then switch it back on. It turn out I had unchecked the “Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power”.

To see if this is your problem, follow the steps below.

    1. Go to Control panel
    2. Click on Network and Sharing Center
    3. Select Change adapter settings
    4. Left click on Wi-Fi adapter to get Wi-Fi Properties box
    5. Click on “Configure”
    6. Click on “Power management” tab
    7. Check the box for “Allow the computer to turn off the device to save power”

    Hello,

I've tried both options, checked and unchecked, and it's still a no-go.

    Any more thoughts?

    Regards.

I two am having the same issue with several brand new ICONIA W511 machines. It's currently running windows 8 professional 32bit. I have done the following:

    • Downloaded the latest BIOS and device drivers
    • Disabled hibernation from the power plan
    • Rebuilt the machine
    • Downloaded an alternative Broadcom wireless driver.

So far i have been unsuccessful at resolving the issue. I can't say i will be rolling anymore of these machines out to our company.

Any help will be much appreciated!!!

    Hi guys,

So far none of the above worked for me. However, I just discussed with one of my co-workes and he suggested this:

    1. Go to search from the charms bar
    2. Search for "power button" in "Settings"
    3. Click on "Change what the power buttons do"
    4. Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable"
    5. Scroll down and UNCHECK "Turn on  fast startup (recommended)"
    6. Reboot your device

I just changed my settings and I will see how it goes in the next week or so as I cannot consistently reproduce the issue. Let me know if that works for any of you guys.
