Re: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt

I have an Acer Aspire One AOD255 netbook running WinXP.

The LCD had a bad experience in a backpack and was replaced

The netbook booted correctly once (the new LCD worked)

The second time I booted it the following message was displayed:

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

\windows\system32\config\system"

"You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM

Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."

This is all that is ever displayed

Well... The netbook does not have an optical drive, so the CD is out

Can I use a flash drive?

There is a network option, but I am unfamiliar with it... Do you need to connect to  PC with an optical drive via a transfer Ethernet cable? (tried connecting to my home network, but no luck)

I tried resetting the BIOS to factory defaults, but that did not work

I also removed the hard drive, placed it in a desktop system, & ran Error Checking... No issues

Put the drive back in the netbook... Same error

Any ideas?

    Hi,

    You should repair your system

You can use an external optical drive to repair your windows

" start Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM

Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."
