Touchpad Over Sensative

I have Elan Tech on M5-581T running Windows 7, it is a 'new' factory refurbished. The touchpad is problematic, sporatically does a "select" while moving curser with touchad. For example, in Windows Explorer this means that it performs unwanted drag-n-drop.  In another example using a internet browser curse, when curser passes over a link it may launch the link.  In general, it is hypersensitive, the slightest touch moves curser.

I've tried:

-Elan tech menu to reduce sensitivity, maximize palmrest, and these no (zero) effect.

-reinstalled driver, factory 10.6.10.8 (also listed as latest per acer), and even tried newer driver 11.6.4.1

-the workarounds help but do not eliminate problem, like double click to select, click at end of drag-n-drop, and eliminating most of the gestures

-I've placed scotch-tape over touchpad and this has a tiny effect to reduce sensitivity.

I love this machine, and this is my second Acer laptop. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advanced.

Seeing the description, I understand this could be an issue with the touchpad itself, since you have tried all the possible things, check if there is any further updates to the drivers or check the warranty to get the issue fixed, probably it might require the touchpad module replacement.
