Acer W500, black screen

Hi, I was preparing to sell my W500 and was prepping it by using the recovery disks to restore everything to default.  I bought this as my external DVD drive:  http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Writer-External-Optical-Drive/dp/B003M0NT1M/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1367015636&sr=8-3&keywords=external+dvd+drive

 

I plugged it in, hit power, volume + and Windows key.  It started reading the drive, then beeped a few times, I couldn't read the error (wasn't paying attention to be honest).  Screen went black.  Nothing was responding, so I turned it off.  When I turn it on, the screen stays black.  None of the shortcut keys work.  Not sure what happened. 

 

Info:  I did change boot to USB CD.  I tried using my windows 7 32 bit cd (desktop) as well as the recovery disk, but none is working.
