I know that if you do put Win7 on the computer, it is possible, but will not be supported under your warranty. If you do put Win7 on this comptuer, make sure FIRST that there are drivers for the laptop on the support website. Second, make sure you create your back up disks BEFORE you install Win7, because if anything goes wrong, the only thing you can do is put Win8 back on the computer. I know that people have put Win7 on the Win8 comptuers, but I have never done this myself. I don't have a comptuer with the capability of holding Win8 yet.

Your model was sold with both Win7 and Win8 so both sets of drivers are available on Acer's driver site.

I suggest you make a note of your hardware before you upgrade to Win7 and download all required drivers before you wipe Win8 (two different touchpads and three different Wifi for example so find out which you have first).

If you also have nVidia graphics, you may find you can only install nVidia Win8 drivers though (it's later anyway and runs just fine).

There is no need to change your Win8 BIOS (plus it is easier to re-install Win8 later if you so wish).

Do make a Win8 backup just in case (you will need 1 x DVD and 1 x 16GB USB).

Make sure you clear any and all passwords before you wipe your HDD.

In the BIOS, change UEFI to Legacy.

There is no free Win7 download option available, so you would need to purchase that (had you bought your machine with Win7 it would have cost considerably more!).

I should point out that my comments refer to the M5-581TG model but I can see no reason why your E1 should be any different. Having said that, you do it at your own risk of course.

Umm, Alan....this comptuer came with Windows 8 from the factory. It was not imaged with Windows 7.

You are correct. However, I referred to the model, not the OPs particular purchase.

My point is that, because this model was marketed as *either* Win7 or Win8, drivers etc are available for both. It follows that the hardware is capable of running either OS.
