travelmate 8472g euro and dollar keys

The Travelmate 8472G UK QWERTY keyboard has dedicated keys for the Euro € and Dollar $ symbols.

On my laptop they don't do anything.

I know I can get the € symbol with Alt Gr - 4 and the $ with Shift 4 but I prefer things to work as designed.

Anybody know how to get the keys working or reassigned to do something else (I'm happy to change the keytop)

This might be useful to someone reading this in the future. I may have found a solution.

I was looking for something similar to you (My new Gateway NE56R has the same bizarre Euro and $ keys to the sides of the "up" key) and after A LOT of searching, found this! I'm surprised I hadn't thought of this sooner. Anyway, I haven't restarted yet, but the Euro key has stopped working, which I take to be a good sign.

First, you have to uninstall ACER "Launch Manager". This util simulates those "stupid" keys and blocks to any key remapping. It also shows the green texts while you change volume, turning on/off WiFi by the "WiFi button" etc. Func of other spec. keys remains, just "Dollar", "Euro" and green texts dissappear. Then you can manualy through register hack or by free SharpKeys utility remap those keys to whatever you want. I chose PgUp and PgDn.

This page may or may not be useful. Also, if you go into SharpKeys and look at the list of key mappings, one is called "Special: €" (E0_45). I tried setting it to what I wanted (Special: Page Up) but still need to reboot. Let's see how things go...
