Hello,
I would like to report a persistent issue with EA games (especially "skate." from Steam using EA Javelin AntiCheat) on my Acer Predator gaming laptop after a clean Windows reinstall.
System information
- Laptop: Acer Predator (with Predator Sense and Acer Quick Access software)
- OS: Windows 11 64-bit (fresh install)
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU
- GPU driver: latest Game Ready driver from NVIDIA (5xx.xx – error messages show 58157 / 55157)
- CPU: Intel mobile CPU with Intel Dynamic Tuning Technology
- Store / launchers: Steam + EA App (EA Javelin AntiCheat is used by skate.)
- Games affected: skate. (main test), other EA titles (Battlefield, Apex Legends) also did not launch correctly from Steam.
Before formatting Windows, all of these games (including skate.) worked normally together with Predator Sense (Turbo mode, fan control, monitoring) without any problems.
After the fresh Windows installation, the problems started.
Main symptoms
- EA games launched from Steam (especially skate.) often fail to start or close immediately.
- I frequently get EA AntiCheat errors such as:"EA Javelin Anticheat encountered an error. Please restart your PC.:C:\Program Files\EA\AC\EAAntiCheat.GameService.exe (7) (1053)"Similar variants also appear like (7) (1056) and sometimes (7) (1).
- When the game manages to open a black screen, I sometimes get a DirectX error and the game closes:"DirectX ErrorDirectX function 'Hang Detected in waitForFrameFences. Timed out after 8000 ms.Waiting for SignalId: XX. Last Signaled Fence Value: XX.Unsignaled Fences: ("Graphics" stopped at YY),failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ("The GPU will not respond to more commands").GPU: "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU", Driver: 58157....SubmissionManagerDx12.cpp.This error is usually caused by the graphics driver crashing; try installing the latest drivers."
- Sometimes I also see the EA AntiCheat crash report window:"Crash Report HandlerThe application has encountered an unexpected error.Dumping finished. File:C:\ProgramData\EAanticheat\Crashdumps*.dmp"
So the game either fails at the AntiCheat stage or crashes with a GPU / DirectX error.
Troubleshooting already done
I have already tried many steps, including what EA Support suggested:
- Windows and drivers
- Fully updated Windows 11 through Windows Update (multiple cumulative and security updates).
- Created a system restore point before doing deeper changes.
- Updated NVIDIA GPU drivers to the latest Game Ready version from NVIDIA.
- Checked that the Windows system files are OK:
sfc /scannow → "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth → "The restore operation completed successfully."
- Installed the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables (2015–2022, x64 and x86) from Microsoft.
- Lowered UAC one level (from the top) and restarted the PC.
- EA / Steam / game
- Verified skate. game files in Steam.
- Uninstalled and reinstalled:
- EA App
- EA AntiCheat
- the game skate. itself
- Ran both Steam and the EA App as Administrator.
The problem did not go away.
Clean boot and services testing (IMPORTANT PART)
Then I did a clean boot using msconfig:
- Opened
msconfig → Services tab. - Checked "Hide all Microsoft services".
- Clicked "Disable all", then restarted the PC.
In this state (almost all non-Microsoft services disabled), EA games from Steam – especially skate. – started working normally:
- The game launched.
- EA Javelin AntiCheat did not show errors.
- I could play for more than 15 minutes and restart the game multiple times without any crash.
After that I enabled only the minimum services needed for GPU, audio and power management. With the following services enabled, the game still worked correctly:
- NVIDIA LocalSystem Container
- NVIDIA Display Container LS
- Intel(R) Audio Service
- Realtek Audio Universal Service
- Steam Client Service
- Intel(R) Dynamic Tuning Technology Service
- Intel(R) Dynamic Application Loader Host Interface Service
- EAAntiCheatService (when needed)
With this minimal set of services the game is stable.
Conflict with Acer software
The issue appears again when I start enabling Acer-specific services, especially:
- Acer Quick Access / Acer QuickPanel / Predator Sense (and their related services such as Acer System Monitor Service, Acer Device Info, etc.)
Observed behaviour:
- When I enable Acer Quick Access / Predator Sense services and restart:
- skate. fails during AntiCheat startup with:
EA Javelin Anticheat encountered an error. ... EAAntiCheat.GameService.exe (7) (1053 / 1056) - Or I get the DirectX DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG error shortly after the game starts.
- When I disable Acer Quick Access (and some related Acer services) again via msconfig and restart:
- skate. launches and works normally again.
- This behaviour is repeatable.
Predator Sense itself also acts strangely when these services are disabled:
- In some configurations it opens but shows no readings (GPU/CPU temperature and usage = 0, no sensors, Turbo mode not working).
- I reinstalled Predator Sense and Acer QuickPanel from the official Acer support website (latest versions).
- After reinstall, their services reappeared in msconfig, but the conflict with EA AntiCheat / DirectX still happens as described above.
So at the moment I have two options:
- Disable several Acer services → EA game works, but Predator Sense / Quick Access do not fully function (no temperatures, no Turbo mode).
- Enable Acer services so that Predator Sense works → EA AntiCheat and/or DirectX errors return and skate. does not run reliably.
This did not happen before the Windows reinstall:Predator Sense (Turbo and fan control) and skate. used to work together without any problem on the same hardware.
What I need from support
Based on all of the above, it looks like there is a compatibility/conflict between:
- Acer Predator software (Predator Sense / Acer Quick Access and their services),
- EA Javelin AntiCheat and/or skate.’s DirectX 12 renderer,
- NVIDIA graphics driver.
I would really appreciate your help with:
- Confirming whether there is a known issue between Acer Predator software and EA Javelin AntiCheat / DX12 games.
- Providing:
- Either a recommended safe set of Acer services that must be enabled for Predator Sense (Turbo, fan control, sensors) to work without breaking games, or
- An older stable version of Predator Sense / Acer Quick Access that is known to be compatible.
- Telling me exactly which Acer services are required and which ones I can keep disabled so EA AntiCheat and DirectX games will not crash.
If you need additional logs or the AntiCheat crash dump, I can provide the files from:
C:\ProgramData\EAanticheat\Crashdumps\
Thank you very much for your time and support.
