Hello community. I have a phn16-72 with a 14900hx and RTX4700 gpu.
I replaced a few days ago my ram with another kit of 2x48gb. It runs perfectly fine though my kit has only 5200mT/s.
First some backround info:
Anyways i ran into some heat issues on the ram modules. I tested a lot around and my idle temperatures are totally fine, the most i had once in idle was 42 degrees on the ram, usually less then 40. But under load HWinfo tells me that the SPD Hub temperature reaches arround 90-95 degree under load. And that with my fan running at 5600prm+-, i did set that manually in sense for both performance and balanced mode. I do a lot of multitasking stuff so basically my ram has sustained use of 45-50gig and thats what happens. To clarify i am rather unexperienced in such hardware stuff so plz bare with me. I only recently realized that more ram makes more heat under load, maybe 64gig would have been the better choice but it is what it is now.
But while replacing i also found the prebuild Pads are unalined, i post some pictures
As you can see the ones at the bottom are ok, but the ones at the top towards the "heatshield2 of the ram look displaced. And due to the residues on the original stock ram i can say the pads still cover quite a lot of the ram quite nicely.
Anyways my goal is to improve my heat issue situation. But i woudl only go that far if the trouble would be worth it. My first concerne is that i make things worse, also i wanted to replace my main drive with one with dram as main drive, until i loked it up and relized that the prestock one actually ahs dram and is very decent. And now with that experience in the back of my had i was wondering if the preinstalled pads actually are better then what i woudl replace them with.
Therefore i have some questions: (especially question 4)
- Is the missposition reason enough to replace the pads? btw i tried to move them but.. yeah no way was about to tore the one apart there and stoped there.
- Can someone confirm the thickness of the pads, the ones at the bottom i measured at 0,5mm, maybe even 0,3mm. And i measured the ones towards the heatshield with 1.5mm thickness.
- Is there a way to get to know the W/mk and shore values of those, so i have the confident that i do something good here for my heat issue and not make everything unnecessary, and potentially worse.
- I guess since the heat is moved with the thick pads to the heatshield there should be no issue improving the pads, but since i also consider replacing the thin ones at the motherbord with potent pads, could i overdo it and damage the motherbord that way ?
- Can someone suggest good pads? For now i picked "GP-extreme", "GP-ultra" or "ec360gold soft" (12,0/15,0/14,5 W/mk and all very soft with a 60+-shore OO. I thought those attributes would be good in there but if i am wrong i am happy for any input i can get.
- When replacing the top 1,5mm pads i would instead put 1,5mm soft pads directly on the ram and then put the shield back on, Due to the softness that little presure should be perfect to keep them in place and perfectly aligned with the ram modules, I at least expect that to work better for me then trying to replace the pads directy on the metal cover. Again any inside of knowledgable person woudl be nice.. i only googled that stuff alst 2 days ^^.
Anyways that shall be it for now. I am thankful for every feedback and insight you can share with me 😁
