Battery Draining While Charging and Gaming — Acer Nitro V17 AI ANV17-41-R2PT

I recently bought an Acer Nitro V17 AI ANV17-41-R2PT, and I’ve noticed that the battery drains while gaming, even when the laptop is plugged in. I’m aware that some battery drain can occur in Turbo and Performance modes, but my laptop is draining even in Quiet and Balanced modes, where it shouldn’t.

The charger is rated at 135W. I’ve disabled CPU boost mode, so the CPU only uses about 20W. The GPU draws around 65W in Quiet mode and 75W in Balanced mode. Even accounting for the screen, RAM, and other components using around 25W, the total power draw should be roughly 110W (125W in Balanced mode), which is still below the charger’s capacity.

Despite this, the battery continues to drain during gameplay. Could this indicate a faulty charger or another issue?

I have this seen this issue is Nitro V series with 135w charger. If possible return this and get another series laptop like Acer Nitro 5.

I know about the issue and that it occurs in Turbo and Performance modes, but the battery shouldn’t drain in Balanced or Quiet modes, especially since I’ve even disabled CPU boost. As I mentioned in my original comment, the laptop uses much less than 135W in those modes.

I got the laptop abroad, so I can’t return it.

Begin by updating the BIOS and system drivers from Acer’s official support site, as this can improve power regulation and fix known bugs. Reducing GPU load by lowering graphics settings or capping frame rates can help minimize power draw, especially in Balanced or Quiet modes. Disconnect any unnecessary USB devices or accessories that may be adding to the overall power demand. If available, test your laptop with a higher-wattage Acer-compatible charger, such as a 180W or 230W model, to see if that resolves the issue. If the battery continues to drain, it’s best to contact Acer support for diagnostics or warranty assistance, as there may be a hardware fault with the charger or power delivery system.
