Hello,
I recently purchased the Predator Helios Neo 16 AI (PHN16-73-934N, Ultra 9 275HX + RTX 5070 Ti Laptop, 140W variant). After bench marking and stress testing, I found that the system seems to be power limited below its advertised specifications.
I'm running at the maximum performance mode, turbo in predator sense, plugged in with zero battery life optimization. Turned of mux switch and Advanced optimus. Running on a clean and fresh install of windows 11 home.
- CPU (Cinebench R23): Package Power peaked at ~138 W, which is normal.
- GPU (FurMark / Superposition 8K / GPU-Z / HWiNFO): Board Power capped at ~110–115 W, well below the expected 140 W TGP with Dynamic Boost.
- System Total Power (HWiNFO): ~240 W max, while this configuration should normally sustain closer to 260–280 W, Considering the power brick comes with 330w.
- Thermals: CPU ≤ 88 °C, GPU ≤ 71 °C, VRAM ≤ 70 °C → no thermal throttling present.
This behavior suggests that an EC firmware or BIOS-level power cap is restricting the GPU from reaching its full potential, despite thermal and power headroom being available.
I have attached monitoring logs (GPU-Z, HWiNFO) showing these results.
My questions are:
- Is this lower GPU wattage limit intentional for the PHN16-73 AI (non-S variant)?
- If not, will Acer release a BIOS/EC firmware update to unlock the full 140 W GPU TGP + Dynamic Boost as advertised?
Thank you for your assistance.
