Hello all,
I'm very surprised that Acer stops supporting their products for free once the warranty period is over. Certainly I wouldn't expect them to replace or fix anything, but I would expect basic technical support at no cost. The Spin 713 ranks among the best purchases I have ever made - but I am disappointed in the support aspect. I think most people have come to expect free tech support for laptops.
Regardless, I tried changing the battery out on my beloved Spin 713 Chromebook because it is old. The laptop itself is still in great condition and I'd like to keep using it. As others have found, if you replace the battery - once it drains completely you cannot start the laptop again without first unplugging the battery from the motherboard, plugging in the charger, starting it, and then plugging the battery back in. This is not corrected by any sort of power cycling.
I only tried one brand of battery, but I've seen the exact same thing reported with official acer replacements.
This problem is fairly common, but to my knowledge Acer has not yet provided a solution. Does this mean that our Chromebooks are just bricked when the battery gets old? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
