Nitro 5 AN515-57 – Battery shuts off at 100% or shows 0% randomly (but still works)

I own a Nitro 5 AN515-57.

I’ve been experiencing a strange issue with the battery. Even though the laptop works perfectly on battery power, Windows often shows it at 0%, or says it's "plugged in, not charging", or doesn't detect the battery at all.

Sometimes, after reaching 100% charge, the laptop shuts off immediately as if it had no power. When I turn it on again, it shows 0% and only works if plugged in. But after a few minutes, the battery icon suddenly updates and shows something like 95%, and the laptop keeps running normally without being plugged in.

Here’s what I’ve tried:

Reinstalled the Microsoft ACPI battery drivers
Disabled Fast Startup
Ran battery calibration
Tried to generate a battery-report.html, but sometimes Full Charge Capacity appears blank
Registered the device on acer.com
I’m planning to update the BIOS (currently still on the original version)

Has anyone else experienced this kind of issue on the AN515-57 model? Did updating the BIOS fix it for you? Or did you have to replace the battery?

Thanks for the update. Based on your Nitro 5 AN515-57 and the symptoms you're seeing—battery showing 0%, sudden shutdowns at 100%, and inconsistent charge readings—it’s very likely the battery itself is failing.

A few key points:

Your BIOS version is 1.20 from 2023/09/13, which is the latest available for your model. So we can rule out outdated firmware as the cause.
You mentioned running battery calibration—just to clarify, both Acer Care Center (ACC) and Nitro Sense (NS) include battery-related features like calibration and 80% charge limiting. These tools don’t fix degraded cells and can misreport battery health if the battery is already worn.
If your battery hasn’t been replaced since purchase, it could be 4 years old, which is beyond typical lithium-ion lifespan.
If your battery report (powercfg /batteryreport) shows a blank or missing Full Charge Capacity, that’s a strong sign the battery controller is no longer reporting correctly. That usually means the battery is at end-of-life.

At this point, I’d recommend:

Replacing the battery—especially if the system runs fine on AC and the battery report is blank.
Avoid further calibration attempts, as they won’t restore lost capacity.
After replacement, recheck battery health using powercfg /batteryreport to confirm proper readings.
