I have an Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-45) with a broken internal screen and am unable to access the BIOS on an external monitor. I’ve tried lid closing tricks, magnet tricks, and even disconnecting the display cable, but if the cable is disconnected, the laptop doesn’t seem to boot at all. Because of this, I can’t access the BIOS/boot menu since nothing shows up on my external monitor until Windows actually loads.
My goal is to:
- Fresh install Windows on a new SSD
- Dual-boot Linux + Windows on the laptop
Questions:
- Can I purchase a low-cost display panel solely to access the BIOS? If yes, where’s a good place to get one (eBay, Amazon, AliExpress, etc.) and do I need the exact same model panel or are there compatible ones?
- Is it possible to install both Windows and Linux on another PC, then move the SSDs into my laptop? If so, how would I actually choose/change which OS to boot once they’re inside my laptop, given I can’t see the BIOS right now?
TLDR: I’m stuck because I can’t get into the BIOS/boot menu on the external monitor, but I still want to set up dual boot.
