Hello All!
I’ve been having some fun lately reviving an Aspire 1410-8804 (Intel Core2 Solo U3500) that has been sitting dormant in my attic for some time. So far I’ve maxed out the RAM at 4 GB, installed a 500 GB SSD, and set it up to dual boot Win 7 Pro and MX Linux (both 64 bit). Everything seems to be working well and while the thing isn’t (and never was) a powerhouse, its performance seems fairly snappy under normal usage.
My question is about the BIOS. It is currently running version 3117, and I am quite certain that it is 32 bit since everything Acer installed on the machine was 32 bit. Going through some of my old files, it seems that I have access to versions 3310 (ZH7_3310_x64.exe) and 3314 (ZH7_3314_x64.exe), both 64 bit. Is there any performance (or other) advantage to be had in going to either of those versions? I don’t know enough about the relative pros and cons of these things to make an educated decision, nor am I able to find any real information about them online. I am hoping someone here might be able to provide some insight for me.
Thank you for any help you might be able to provide. I would like to get this machine on to living the last, best life it can have!
