I recently bought this laptop, which came with 16GB of RAM pre-installed. For context, I’ll mainly be using this laptop for video editing, not gaming.
I initially asked the technician to install an additional of 16GB of RAM, but the store didn’t have any 16GB sticks in stock—only 32GB ones. I decided to go with the 32GB stick instead.
Originally, the plan was to remove both 8GB sticks and replace them with the 32GB stick. However, the technician tested the setup with one 8GB stick and the 32GB stick together (for a total of 40GB), and the system booted up and worked fine. So, they only removed one 8GB stick, and my laptop is now running on 40GB of RAM. So far, I haven’t encountered any issues.
My question is:
On paper, the laptop is rated to support up to 32GB of RAM, but I’m currently running it on 40GB. Will there be any downsides or issues in the future because of this?
Also, if there are no issues, could I upgrade it to 64GB of RAM, and would it still work?
