Acer Aspire TC-895-UA92 Computer will not boot up,"inaccessible boot drive"

I have a four-year old Acer Aspire TC-895-UA92 that shut down while I was saving a pdf file in Adobe. All my efforts to reboot the computer failed. Windows diagnostics told me two things: I have an "inaccessible boot drive" and "selected boot device is disabled in BIOS setup."

Windows offered multiple times to "automatically" correct the problem but characteristically failed each try.

Is this something that only a computer technician can fix or is there some software I can download from Acer and install via a USB port to correct?

Thanks for the detailed post. Based on the “inaccessible boot drive” and BIOS boot device error, it sounds like your system either lost track of the bootloader or is reacting to a recent hardware change—especially if you upgraded RAM.

Let’s walk through a clean install using a USB stick:

1. Prepare the USB Installer

Use Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11
Choose “Create installation media” and follow the prompts.

2. BIOS Setup

Insert the USB stick, then power on and press F2 repeatedly to enter BIOS.
Enable Boot Menu and set USB as first priority.
Disable Secure Boot if enabled.
Save changes and exit.

3. Boot from USB

Press F12 during startup to access the boot menu.
Select the USB stick and begin Windows setup.

4. Clean Install Steps

Choose “Custom Install.”
If no drive appears, click “Load Driver” and point to storage drivers (Intel RST if needed).
Delete all partitions and install to unallocated space.

📌 RAM Note: If you recently upgraded memory, reseat both sticks firmly. A loose or incompatible module can cause BIOS instability and boot errors. TC-895 supports DDR4 2666 MHz UDIMM—avoid mixing brands or speeds.

Thanks for your detailed help!! However, I am stuck on a couple of points.

Since I told you my machine is using W10 and you advised me to download a version of W10 from UUP dump I need to know whether the amd version it is offering is suitable for my machine. Does it matter?

Secondly, do I then stick the USB stick with the downloaded W10 into my machine and follow your instructions from what point? It appears I don't have the "create installation media" software at that point.

BTW, I decided to try Plan A and install the fix you initially recommended even though Windows told me it would wipe out all the apps and settings on the machine—but not my files—-while upgrading to 11. Nevertheless I gritted my teeth and chose to go ahead.

Everything was proceeding nicely but after the install got to 89 percent in the second stage (about 30 minutes of processing) it announced it couldn't complete the install and advised me to go back to asking Windows to fix the problem automatically—which of course didn't work AGAIN.

Billsey, you were quite right, unfortunately. I found a remarkably knowledgeable and highly acclaimed computer repair shop in my neighborhood which quickly confirmed your succinct appraisal. The 500 Gb SSD that came with my machine had failed.

I bought another SSD drive at 1 Tb to replace it and the shop has now with some difficulty almost finished cloning the failed drive's data (mostly programs) to the new drive. I also upgraded an original 4 Gb RAM stick to 8 which will now give me a total of 16 Gb.

The cloning has been progressing slowly because of the data coming off the failed drive. How they can still capture that data is a mystery to me! I don't have the finished product in my home yet (at around $400) but I trust all will be well.
