When I bought the laptop, the description said that there was a fingerprint reader and a video camera. The camera I can see, but the fingerprint reader is supposed to be in the top left corner of the touch pad. However, Windows doesn't see either.

Hi FermEauBois, post your laptop model, if you use Linux or Windows and we will tell you if there is a fingerprint sensor, where it is located and how to activate it. Webcams are integrated in the laptop, controlled by Windows only, if not detected by Windows uninstall the webcam device in Device manager and just reboot.

Hi Puraw, Thanks for the quick reply. Here's some additional info :

    1. It's a Nitro ANV15-51, and it's using the factory image for Windows 11
    2. After I drafted the question, I was able to check that the camera works in the Windows setup, though it's not recognized by Hello for face recognition.

    Thanks!

    Hi FermEauBois

The Nitro ANV15‑51 series is not equipped with a fingerprint reader in all configurations — in fact, most units ship without one. On the trims that do include it, Acer integrates the sensor into the top‑left corner of the touchpad and it shows up in Windows Hello’s sign‑in options once the driver is installed.

If nothing appears under Windows Settings > Accounts > Sign‑in options > Fingerprint recognition, and you don’t see a “Biometric” device in Device Manager, your particular build likely doesn’t have the hardware at all

On Windows Hello Facial Recognition only one High-end Swift 14 AI built on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite (ARM) platform has such a camera, none of Acer's webcams have the required resolution, IR-3D for Facial Recognition but there are external USB cameras with IR-3D, not expensive.
