Should I remove McAfee from my Aspire A315-59-30HT since I don’t plan to renew the subscription?

Hi everyone,

I bought my Acer Aspire A315-59-30HT last July 17, 2023. I noticed McAfee is on my laptop, but I don’t remember ever installing it myself. What’s weird is that in the apps list it shows the install date as December 30, 2024 (which hasn’t even happened yet).

I’m a bit confused if this means McAfee came pre-installed with my laptop. I’m also thinking about uninstalling it since I heard Windows Defender is already enough for protection.

So my questions are:

  • Did McAfee come pre-installed on my Acer?
  • Is it safe to uninstall it and just use Windows Defender?
  • Will removing it affect my laptop in any way?

I don’t plan to renew the subscription, but I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing before deleting it.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

You likely got McAfee pre-installed on your Acer Aspire A315-59-30HT, which is normal. The strange install date is just a system glitch. It’s completely safe to uninstall McAfee—Windows Defender provides solid protection and will activate automatically. Removing McAfee won’t harm your laptop and may even improve performance slightly. Since you don’t plan to renew, uninstalling it is a smart and safe choice.
