    Hi BiffSmithy48

Adding a hard drive – Acer Aspire XC‑1780 If you’re comfortable with the hardware side, there’s usually no need to change any BIOS settings when adding a standard SATA hard drive or SSD to this model.

    Steps:

    1. Power off and unplug the desktop.
    2. Install the drive into an available bay and connect it to the motherboard with a SATA data cable, and to the PSU with a SATA power lead.
    3. Power on and enter BIOS/UEFI to confirm the drive is detected (should appear automatically under Storage/SATA devices). Leave settings on their defaults.
    4. Boot into Windows, open Disk Management, and initialise/format the new drive so it’s ready for use.

Only NVMe M.2 drives require checking BIOS settings for the correct storage mode, but for standard SATA, the defaults work out of the box.

The Aspire XC1780 has am M.2 PCIe3x4/SATA SSD slot and 2x SATA III 3.5" or 2.5" drives. Make sure that this desktop has the last bios versionR01-B1 installed which has the 13th Gen cpu microcode update that its name is: "INTEL Microcode 0x12B update for the Intel 13th and 14th Generation CPU issue" which is essential for this desktop to be installed.

For these drives, you don't need to set anything up in the bios, as once you install an M.2 SSD drive or a 3.5" or 2.5" SATA III drives the bios automatically adjusts the proper settings for these drives.

Note: If you are doing a Clean Install of Win-11 version 24H2 onto an M.2 SSD make sure that you include the Aspire XC1780 IRST (Intel® Rapid Storage Technology) Driver version 20.0.0.1037 onto the bootable USB installation drive so that you can install this driver at the Win-11 section of “Where do you want to install Windows? > Load driver > as you need to install this IRST version 20.0.0.1037 driver so that Win-11 OS recognizes the M.2 SSD boot drive and you can continue and finish the installation. Good luck and hope this helps you out.
