If you cant get data and/or copy and paste data from a thumb drive, that means that you have a faulty USB thumb drive, if you have valuable data on this drive you need to take the drive to a tech that can recover your valuable data, as the thumb drive is faulty and no matter what you do it can't be made to work.

There is not much you can do if you pulled this drive out or a computer without going through the proper USB thumb drive extraction process like shown below, as you always need to follow that process when you take out a USB thumb drive. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Step 1 - Go to task Manager and you will see the USB Drive icon

Step 2 - Right click the USB Drive icon and chose Eject Disk

If you're having trouble copying files from a USB drive to your desktop, it could be due to several reasons, including file system issues, corrupted drivers, or permission problems. Try troubleshooting by checking your USB ports, USB cable, and drivers. If those don't work, consider scanning the drive for viruses or checking file permissions.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of potential solutions:
    1. Check USB Connections and Ports:
    Try different USB ports:
Connect the USB drive to different USB ports on your computer, including both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports.
    Try a different USB cable:
Use a different USB cable to rule out any issues with the cable.
    Inspect the USB port:
Make sure the USB drive is securely plugged into the port and that there's no visible damage to the port.
    Test on another computer:
Connect the USB drive to a different computer to see if the issue persists. If it works on another computer, the problem is likely with your computer's USB ports or drivers.
    2. Check USB Drive and File System:
    Scan for viruses:
A virus on the USB drive could be hiding or corrupting files. Scan the drive with your antivirus software.
    Check file system:
If the USB drive has a very large number of files or folders, it might be exceeding the limits of the file system (e.g., FAT32 has limitations on file and folder size).
    Format the drive:
If the file system is the issue, you can try formatting the USB drive, but be aware that this will erase all data on the drive.
    3. Check Drivers and Permissions:
    Update USB drivers:
Outdated or corrupted USB drivers can cause problems. Go to Device Manager (search for it in the Start menu), expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers," right-click on your USB drive, and select "Update driver".
    Check permissions:
If you're trying to copy files into a protected folder on your desktop, you may need to adjust your permissions. Right-click on the folder, go to Properties, then Security, and make sure you have the necessary permissions.
    Check for administrator rights:
Ensure you're logged in with an administrator account, which will give you the necessary permissions to copy files.
