Dear All, I have the acer aspire a715-71g and it's been really good computer until one day I tried switching it on and all I get is a blinking (blue) keyboards and the screen is black and doesn't turn on! It's like it's trying to boot but fails… I changed the battery but to no avail. Has anyone had a similar issue? What's the issue and how can I solve it. I also disassembled the screen and made sure the wire is well connected. Still didn't work. Kindly help. Thanks.

    Hi kajoro,

If an external monitor or TV displays the image correctly, that usually points to a faulty laptop screen or its backlight rather than a graphics card issue.

The next step is to have the panel tested or replaced by an authorized Acer repair center. You can find the nearest one via Acer’s official Support Contact page:https://www.acer.com/worldwide/support/

I strongly suggest that you first do a Hared Reset before you do anything else, as these resets do revive these laptops from symptoms like you are experiencing, and see if your Aspire A715-71G EC chip is not freezing and needs resetting properly, as that is a cause of these post boot black screens. If a hard reset doesn't fix this issue then it could be a faulty eDP cable and the last thing that you should look at is to replace its screen or the laptop has an internal power issue also and it could be an EC or a BQ chip that all need pinpointing by a technician.

Do a proper Hard Reset first like this: open the ram door then the HDD door and then remove the seventeen (17) screws securing the lower case to the upper case, starting from the left side, pry to release the left side latches, continue releasing the bottom side latches, release the right side latches, until you remove the lower case.

Disconnect the main battery cable from the mainboard, then take the main battery out, then press the power key for 10 seconds to release all power to the laptop and then disconnect the RTC/BIOS battery and then short the bios batteries + & - pins at the mainboard plug (as shown below) to reset CMOS and then take all the ran out.

This is the RTC/BIOS battery mainboard plug where you need to short the +&- pins to reset CMOS

Leave the laptop like that for at least 30-60min so that the EC and Chipset chips reset properly and completely and then reconnect everything, if you have 2x ram modules, only connect 1x ram module and alternate the two ram modules and see if its not the ram that is faulty and causing a black screen, as the laptop should turn on and boot properly with an image on the screen.

These are the other parts that you might need and their Acer part numbers and screen types, as reference to you:
