Took the back off and Examined the Ram slot which only shows 4 GB occupied. In system it shows 8 GB Ram. I understand my laptop (still going well) has part of its Ram soldered in place and not accessible. My question is Does this mean I have 4GB soldered in with the 4GB SO-DIMM making up the total 8GB and would changing the 4GB DIMM to 8GB work. Or best leave things alone.

I changed the thermal paste which was still soft and fine but back was off.

Your laptop has a total of 8GB RAM, consisting of 4GB soldered to the motherboard, which is non-removable, and a 4GB SO-DIMM module that can be removed and upgraded. You can replace the 4GB SO-DIMM with an 8GB or even a 16GB module. This upgrade would increase your total RAM to 12GB or 20GB, offering better multitasking capabilities and overall performance improvements. It should be 2666mhz, DDR4, 1.2V
