Unable to download the latest BIOS update for my Gateway DX4860

I'm unable to download the latest BIOS update for my Gateway DX4860, which uses the Acer IPISB-VR REV: 1.01 motherboard. I tried entering my computer’s serial number, but the system returns an error saying the serial number can't be found.

Currently, my system is running BIOS version P02-A2. I'm looking to update to the latest BIOS because the motherboard has a strange issue—it can handle the same RAM modules in slots 1 and 2, but not when those same modules are installed in slots 3 and 4.

Troubleshooting steps I've taken:

  • Reinstalled the original 2GB x 4 setup — the system booted normally, so the memory slots are functional.
  • Installed two 4GB sticks in slots 1 and 2 — system booted fine with 8GB.
  • Swapped those out for the other two 4GB sticks in the same slots — system also booted fine.

This confirms that all four new 4GB sticks work individually, and slots 1 & 2 are fine.

However, as soon as I populate all four slots with the new 4GB sticks, I get the continuous beep again, and no boot — indicating an issue when slots 3 & 4 are filled with these modules.

Current workaround:

I'm running the system with 2 x 4GB (slots 1 & 2) and 2 x 2GB (slots 3 & 4) for a total of 12GB, which is stable — but not ideal.

Please help me locate the latest bios.

The last bios drivers for the Gateway DX4860 desktop go HERE as they have version P02-A2 dated: 2012-05-14 for the MBR/Legacy type bios or for the UEFI type bios use version P11-A1 Dated: 2013-09-02, search the site as its a tricky site to get around in, and if you cant find the bios, then search the web for those bios versions for further places to download. Acer community have no access to any Gateway drivers or service guides even though Acer owns Gateway.

The reason your desktop doesn't operate with the ram that you have is because the bios that you are running in your DX4860 desktop is too old and you need this desktops last bios version, also clean all the slots and use the suggested ram modules below which are a max DDR3-1333MT/s speed ram, Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Note: The above site is a 3rd party site that I take no responsibility if these files contain viruses or brick your PC, so proceed with caution and always have the Windows included defender if you are running Win-10 or an approved anti virus installed for earlier Windows OS versions.

This is what is recommended to upgrade the DX4860 desktop ram to and up to a maximum memory capacity of 16GB Memory and make sure that the ram is at max DDR3-1333MT/s type ram use these ram modules and all 4x ram modules are populated with the same spec ram, for proper functionality. Good luck and hope this helps you out
