Hi, we bought my son an Acer Spin 314 chromebook (CP314-2HN-378H) for school and have bought what is advertised as a compatible stylus from Amazon. The chromebook is touch screen but doesn't seem to recognise the stylus, so I have concluded it's not compatible after all. I can't find much on line about this model being used for drawing with a stylus at all so, before I buy another one, can someone confirm? Can you use a stylus with this model? And if so, which one?

Hi, the Acer Chromebook Spin CP314‑2HN‑378H does not natively support an active stylus—meaning it lacks the specialized EMR or USI digitizer layer that recognizes digital pen input.

There is no specific stylus pen listed for the ChromeBook CP314-2HN in its service guide by Acer. But I suggest that the stylus pen for the CP314-1HN Stylus Touch Pen will work for the CP314-2HN, so try this pen below. good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately the CP314‑2HN‑378H does not include stylus digitizer hardware like EMR or USI. While the CP314‑1HN is specifically designed to support an active stylus (as outlined in Acer’s service documentation), the 2HN variant only supports basic touch input and lacks the internal circuitry required to register digital pen signals.

🔍 Several users—including LindaMcC75—have already tried styluses marketed as “compatible,” but the screen doesn’t respond, confirming the absence of stylus layer support.

📝 If stylus use is essential (handwriting or drawing), I’d recommend checking Acer models that explicitly list USI compatibility, such as some variants of the Spin 511 or Spin 713 series.

Capacitive styluses may still work for tap-based navigation, but they won’t provide pressure sensitivity or digital input needed for stylus-based apps.
