Through many years(5) of gaming with triple A games (RDR2,etc) my hdd has now started to become slow and when opening games have started to use its full potential 100% in taskmanager and not launching games, have tried every youtube tutorial bios/cmd prompts and even did a clean reinstall Win11 to cleanse all the BS my laptop went through all the years, to no Avail. Have concluded hdd is prob on its last legs and want to buy a 1tb ssd to add for my 2nd slot. Any suggestions?

Hi, if your goal is to upgrade your Predator PH315-53 with a 1TB SSD, you're on the right track. The second M.2 slot in this model supports PCIe Gen3 x4, so you'll get the best performance and compatibility by choosing a Gen3 NVMe SSD.

I'd recommend the Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB. It offers:

    • Up to 3,500 MB/s read and 3,300 MB/s write speeds
    • DRAM cache for sustained workloads
    • Proven reliability and excellent thermal management

    You are welcome.

If you're still running the original mechanical HDD, it's worth replacing it with a 2.5" SATA SSD like the Samsung 870 Evo V-NAND 2TB. You'll get:

    • Up to 560 MB/s read and 530 MB/s write
    • Much faster boot and load times
    • Lower power draw and zero noise

For the M.2 upgrade, while the Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB is a top pick, another excellent Gen3 x4 option is the Western Digital WD Black SN750 NVMe 1TB (WDS100T3XHC):

    • Up to 3,470 MB/s read and 3,000 MB/s write
    • DRAM cache and gaming mode via WD Dashboard
    • Priced around $120, slightly more than the Samsung, but with comparable performance and a sleek design

Both drives are PCIe Gen3 x4, so they’ll run at full speed in the PH315-53’s second M.2 slot. If you’re after a bit of style or brand preference, WD Black is a great pick.

Let me know if you want to add cloning instructions or BIOS boot order tips for the SATA swap — happy to help!

Thank you, will definitely buy this! Are there any substitutes to this? I seem to have a hard time finding the part. It seems to be discontinued :(
