I just received a notification saying that my disk is at risk by the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application. It told me to open the app to see further details but the app will not open so I do not know what the issue is.

I have an Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 (1TB SSD, 32GB RAM, Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900HX 2.20 GHz, Nvidia RTX 4070). This was bought in December of last year so it is very new and has already been sent in to Acer for repair once because it just stopped working.

What is this warning, how can I resolve it?

If your PHN16-72 model gets the "Disk at risk" (SMART) warning error, it means that the boot M.2 SSD drive is signalling its imminent failure. This is very unusual to happen to an M.2 SSD boot drive. Send your PHN16-72 model laptop to Acer Tech Support asap, so that they can replace the oem boot drive with a new SK Hynix type M.2 SSD drive that your laptop came with oem.

If you have a spare drive, I suggest that you clone your existing Win-11if you have valuable data on it, as a backup, so that when you get the laptop back from Acer, you can clone the original Win-11 onto the Acer replaced boot M.2 drive. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

A "Disk at risk" notification on your Helios Neo 16, often triggered by a SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) event, indicates a potential issue with your hard drive or SSD. This could mean the disk is failing or experiencing problems that may lead to data loss or system instability. Here's a breakdown of what to do:1. Understanding the Notification:

    • SMART Events:These events are triggered when the disk's internal health monitoring systems detect potential issues.
    • Possible Causes:Outdated drivers, BIOS issues, or even software conflicts can trigger false positives.
    • Importance:While a SMART event doesn't always mean an imminent failure, it's crucial to investigate and take steps to mitigate potential risks.

    2. Troubleshooting Steps:

    • Check SMART Status:
      • Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type wmic diskdrive get status.
      • A status other than "OK" indicates a problem.
    • Run Disk Check:
      • Right-click your drive (usually C:) in File Explorer and select Properties.
      • Under the Tools tab, click "Check" to scan for errors and repair.
    • Check Device Manager:
      • Open Device Manager (Win + X, then Device Manager) and check for any errors (yellow triangles) next to your disk drive.
    • Update Drivers and BIOS:
      • Visit the Acer support page (linked in Microsoft Community) for updates to Intel Rapid Storage Technology, SSD drivers, and BIOS.
    • Backup Data:
      • If you find any issues, back up your important data immediately.
