Hi Acer Community,
I’m using an Aspire A515-57-5368 (BIOS v1.30) and facing a USB-C and Thunderbolt-related issue:
❌ Problem:
- USB-C charging and display output only work if connected before power-on
- If I hotplug my USB-C monitor (LG 27U850N):
- Charging fails
- Display doesn’t work
- Billboard Device appears in Device Manager (meaning PD/Alt Mode failed)
- Thunderbolt controller (
9A1B
) is not detected in Device Manager
- Drivers are all updated, including Intel Thunderbolt (v1.41.1340.0), but it refuses to install ("driver not needed")
✅ Observations:
- charnges fine i USB-C is connected before boot. but no display
- HWiNFO confirms:
- Thunderbolt PCIe controller is present (
8086:466E
) - Hot-plug is supported by hardware
- Same issue under Windows 11 23H2 and Ubuntu 22.04
- Charging sometimes resumes if reloaded in Linux (
modprobe typec_ucsi
), but not in Windows
🧠 Conclusion:
Seems like a firmware/EC issue — PD/DisplayPort Alt Mode negotiation only occurs at boot.
Hotplug doesn't trigger Thunderbolt or PD retry.
❓ Ask:
- Can Acer fix this via EC firmware or BIOS update?
- Is there a way to force the Thunderbolt controller to stay initialized?
- Any hidden BIOS setting to disable Thunderbolt Security or enable PD retry?
This is my primary consultation laptop and I rely on USB-C display + charging daily.
I also have attached output log file of HwInfo tool please check !!!
Thanks in advance!
