Out of nowhere, it seems, a message emblazons across the screen in very large font: "Working on updates. Do not turn off your system." I

If this is a routine update, it shows no progress (no % progress) and it appears stuck. How long do I wait ? Is this a Windows update, or is it coming from Acer ?

I have never seen this before (message in very large font). A half-hour has passed and there is no progress. Is my laptop okay ?

    Hello;

    This is a Windows update screen and notification. Acer Care Center does not perform this type of update process. If you think there is a problem with the update process and your PC is stuck on this screen, please read the document below.

    The biggest reason why the problems are not solvedis if someone who says there is a problem with the GPU says; If I change the case, will the problem be solved? That's the whole point! The concepts are different! We should not go off topic.

    I was cyber-attacked from somewhere. It was not a normal update, nor any type of normal maintenance.

    I was able to access the Recovery & Troubleshoot screen during bootup (by pressing Alt +F10 repeatedly). I chose to uninstall the most recent update and now it appears fixed. (Choose Uninstall last Quality Update). I then continued to create a Restore point. (System Restore is not enabled for a new Acer laptop).

    Whatever happened, the above actions appeared to fix things. I'm pretty sure I was cyber-attacked. Very unusual for a new laptop. Very unusual, very unusual ..

    If you think you have been subjected to a cyber attack, please boot the PC into safe mode, recover your documents and then perform a clean installation of Windows.

    Okay, a reinstallation of Windows can resolve the matter.

    A PC reset/reinstallation is probably the best anti-virus remedy these days. Anti-virus software isn't always effective and most people today have given up on it.

    Regarding the recommended article "How to Fix a PC Stuck on "Don't Turn Off" During Windows Updates" - there was really no indication of any progress at all - no circular rotating dots, no % progress, no nothing. The font across the screen was 1-1/2 inches tall ! No text is that tall for anything in Windows update, or anything I have ever seen for an update message. Very unusual.
