I have an Acer TravelMate P253-E laptop and I’d like to confirm whether a CPU upgrade is possible. My current processor is an Intel Celeron 1005M, and I plan to upgrade to an Intel Core i3-3110M.

Here are the detailed system specifications:

• Socket: rPGA988B (Socket G2)
• Chipset: Intel HM70
• BIOS: InsydeH2O, version V2.21 (dated 2013-12-16)
• Current CPU: Celeron 1005M (Ivy Bridge, 2 cores / 2 threads, 1.9 GHz)
• Target CPU: Core i3-3110M (Ivy Bridge, 2 cores / 4 threads, 2.4 GHz)

I have two questions:

1. Will the Core i3-3110M be fully supported by this system's motherboard and BIOS?
2. Is it possible to install a more powerful CPU (such as Core i5-3230M or i7-3520M), or is the i3-3110M the highest supported CPU for this model considering the HM70 chipset and BIOS version V2.21?

I would greatly appreciate your confirmation or recommendation.

Hi, the Intel HM70 chipset in this laptop does not support Core i3, i5, or i7 processors.
