Context: I bought the Acer Swift Edge 16 32GB version, with ms-dos preinstalled. I installed fedora linux some time ago, and when updating my device (fedora 42, through kde discovery) my computer stopped booting up anymore.

To be specific, after clicking the power button, the laptop keyboard brightens up, and during this time the “battery icon” on the side is blue. But after a bit, it turns red, the keyboard lights turn off and the laptop turns off. This is the same regardless of whether it is plugged in, and each time the duration of the keyboard lights staying on seem to be random (although roughly around 5-15 seconds).

This happens before I can access the bios (as I have been trying to access it pressing f2). Even the acer logo does not show up.

Things I already tried:

  1. Completely powering the device off (unplugged) pressing the button for 30 seconds. Here, the keyboard lights turn on at the beginning, turns off, and turns on again at around the 28 second mark, in which it then turns off again. I then waited for around 5 minutes, and tried to turn it on again, but it did not change anything.
  2. Pressing the “battery pin” thing at the back of the device with a clip for around 30 seconds. I then waited for around 5 minutes and tried again but it didn't fix it.
  3. Having a live bootable USB (fedora 42) plugged in while trying to access the bios with f2 - did not work, as laptop shut down before being able to access bios.

Thanks for the help, and sorry if I seemed angry in this post but I am really at a loss here.

For a bit more context, my laptop would frequently crash every now and then abruptly, although this is the first time where im unable to boot back up.

For a bit more context since i forgot to say, it does give 2 loud beeps sometimes - it always did before and would make the laptop start, but now it gives the beeps kind of randomly (max of twice each time, and not always there)

For even more context, the battery light does not turn on if the device is unplugged

First step, look on the bottom of your laptop to find the sticker than has the serial number and it should also show the full model number. It will likely look something like SFG14-xxx-xxxx. Once we know which of the many different SFG14 models you have, we can give better help. If it's one of the newest designs then a portion of your issues may be OS related, it often takes a year or so before the Linux developers provide full support for new designs. We can't help with the beeps or the status lights until we know which model you have.

The exact model is SFE16-43-R8ZU. Linux has been working fine right before the update, so im not sure why it is giving errors now.
