I have a Aspire MZ5610 on wind 7 x64, having problems using the e-SATA port, if connected while the computer is up and running the system does not recognize that anything has been connected. The e-SATA device needs no drivers as win 7 will install. Have tried rebooting computer with e-SATA connected but the system hangs on the start up flash screen, can not enter bio and will not proceed to load windows. Thanks to all who may have a solution.

    Hi

I have the problem sorted now, very basically it appears that windows (7 64bit in my case) sorts its self out, the problem was me or to be more exact what I was trying to do.

I got a esata HDD docking station from Maplins then a 3 Tbt hard disk. The disk was unformatted so was not picked up or recognised. Having got the whole connected then running the disk management program with in administrative tools managed to format it, then the next problem, only able to allocated under 2 tbt of hard disk. Had heard about this problem before with large hdd so knew the work around. Now every thing runs great and was well worth the problems. I have a cheap installation that can be expanded and is a fast as the internal hdd. Forget all other external USB hdd- they can not match esata for speed. Why esata has not been better supported by the industry I don't know but I will certainly continue to use it and good old maplins for still selling components for esata. Hope this helps you.
