Hello Acer Support,

I'm experiencing a frustrating issue with the internal microphone setup on my Acer Swift Go 14 (Model: SFG14-71, Intel i5-1335U, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Home 23H2).

Summary of the Problem

The Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) microphone is recognized by Windows and appears as the default recording device.

However, Discord does not detect any input from the Intel SST microphone, even though it is selected in both Windows and Discord audio settings.

I attempted to switch to the Realtek internal microphone, but:

It either doesn’t appear in the list of devices, or

It cannot be enabled, or

It cannot be set as the default microphone.

It seems Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) is interfering with the normal audio input system:

SST appears under System Devices and dominates the audio input pipeline.

Even after removing SST-related drivers from Device Manager (BUS, OED, Detection Verification), they are automatically reinstalled after restart.

This prevents the Realtek audio driver from functioning independently.

As a result, I cannot test if the Realtek microphone works properly, nor can I switch to it as a fallback for Discord.

What I’ve Tried So Far:

Removed all Intel SST drivers and disabled automatic driver installation (via Registry).

Installed the official Realtek Audio driver from Acer’s support page.

Verified microphone permissions (Windows Privacy Settings).

Rebooted multiple times between each step and checked device status.

Main Issue:

Even though the Intel SST microphone is active, Discord doesn’t detect any sound from it, making it unusable for voice communication.

Meanwhile, the Realtek microphone is unavailable or unusable, preventing me from switching to it as a backup. This is especially frustrating since Windows detects the Realtek audio driver, but it refuses to allow it to be selected or activated.

  1. Why is Discord not receiving audio input from the Intel SST microphone, even when it's shown as active?
  2. Is this a known issue with the SST driver on the Swift Go 14 (SFG14-71) model?
  3. Is it possible to fully disable SST and switch to the Realtek microphone as the main device?
  4. Why does Windows refuse to allow the Realtek microphone to be enabled or set as default even though the driver is installed?

Additional Notes:

System: Acer Swift Go 14 (SFG14-71), Intel i5-1335U, 16 GB RAM

OS: Windows 11 Home, version 23H2

Audio Driver: Latest Realtek from Acer support (2023/2024)

Discord: Updated, with input device set correctly

Intel SST drivers auto-reinstall even after manual removal

No option to disable SST in BIOS

Thank you for your assistance.

    Do something simple first.

Have you make sure that the mic isn't muted?

Can you record using windows' built-in sound recorder app?
