PHN-16-CPU temp. rises quickly, even during light usage. When system heavy load, touches100°C

I wanted to tell you about some issues I’m having with my Predator Helios Neo 16 PHN16-72 (i9-14900HX).

First, the CPU temperature rises very quickly, even during light usage. When I put the system under heavy load, the temperature jumps to 100°C and stays there, even when I set the fans to max speed (7500 RPM) using PredatorSense.

Second, there’s an occasional screen issue: sometimes when I start the laptop, the screen shows strange behavior or glitches, and it only goes away after one or two reboots. It also occasionally happens after waking the device from sleep mode.
The laptop is new, and this problem started appearing about three days after I first opened it. So far, it’s happened around 12 times at random intervals.

Hi, update BIOS with version 1.16 dated 2025/02/06, upgrade Windows to Windows11 24H2 and install Predator Sense from the Microsoft Store. Open Task Manager-Processes, click on the Processes column header to show the running background programs, if more than 75 uninstall some programs you don't use and also disable the Startup programs in Task Manager that you don't need.

Its normal for your PHN16-72 gaming laptop to reach those temps under default or heavy load as this laptop is designed for those temps as tested by Acer with your PHN16-72 under Default and Turbo modes.

As you can see, they reach 100°C and it should have the below compensated fans speeds, so compare your laptop to the temps below.

If your PHN16-72 laptop is new and you have update the bios to version 1.16 that includes the "Update MCU to 0x129 for 2024.4 IPU security update" which is the Intel 13th and 14th gen cpu microcode fix for that makes the CPU overheat and you have updated Win-11 to version 24H2 and to its last OS build: 26100.3915 then there could be something wrong with the laptop.

Send your laptop to Acer Tech Support in your country as there could be something wrong with either the mainboard or the cpu/gpu and vram thermal paste applications or the actual thermal module of your laptop, so get Acer to inspect and change these parts appropriately. Do not try and do that yourself and/or open the laptop as the Acer warranty will be voided. Good luck and hope this helps you out some more.

I updated all the drivers.
I updated the BIOS.
I reinstalled the system, downloading it directly from Microsoft servers.
I checked the screen by gently pressing on it when the issue appeared, and there was no change.

You have done all that you can do, and if the laptop still does not function like you want it to do, then any further fixes should be done by an Acer technician and any problems fixed by Acer, so send your PHN16-72 laptop to Acer Tech Support in your country. Good luck.
