It appears my laptop has a Realtek sound card and I was led to believe the audio from the Realtek sound card is capable of receiving Dolby digital surround sound movie audio . What my question is, if I connect a Sony S40R 5.1 surround sound speaker system via my laptop HDMI output port to the Sony HDMI input port, and the settings are right, would I hear 5.1 surround sound audio from each speaker. Any support or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Yes, connecting your Sony HT-S40R 5.1 surround sound system to your laptop via HDMI and ensuring the correct settings are enabled, should allow you to hear 5.1 surround sound from all speakers, including the subwoofer. The HDMI connection will transmit both video and audio signals, allowing your laptop to send the 5.1 audio to the soundbar.

The HDMI connection will transmit both video and audio signals, allowing your laptop to send the 5.1 audio to the soundbar. Ensure your laptop's audio output settings are configured to output 5.1 surround sound. You may need to select the appropriate sound mode on the soundbar to activate the 5.1 SS processing. You'll need to play content that is encoded with 5.1 surround sound e.g., a movie with a 5.1 audio track to fully utilize the 5.1 capabilities of the HT-S40R.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊
