Swift SF314-511- BluRay Player-What additional software I need or what changes to existing software

I have an Acer Swift SF314-511. I am trying to connect and use a BluRay player using an HDMI cable to play back DVDs. However, when I connect the player using the HDMI and try to play back a DVD using VLC, I am unable to get an image on the laptop's monitor.

I confirmed with Acer that the HDMI port on the model above can be used to receive a signal from the Blu-ray player. However, I understand that I need to add some software or make or make some software changes.

I have not been able to find anything that spells out what additional software I need or what changes to existing software I need to make.

You likely won't get an image on your laptop's monitor by connecting a Blu-ray player via HDMI, as laptop HDMI ports are typically for outputting to external displays, not receiving input. You can purchase an external USB Blu-ray drive that connects to your laptop via USB. Once you have a Blu-ray drive, you'll need software like VLC Media Player or other Blu-ray playback software to play the discs.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊

Yes, if they told you that you could play the video from a Blue Ray player, they didn't really understand what you were asking. The HDMI is video out only.

Thanks Billsey. I agree that they did not clearly understand my question. Perhaps, I should have been clearer in the question that I put to them.

Or the tech you talked to might not be fully comfortable with your language, since they provide support worldwide they often are multilingual, but more proficient in one language rather than another…
