Hello Everyone,

I would like to use the serial port in my Acer Veriton X6 VX6660G computer.

There is a header connector on the mobo for the serial port, but no cable to the back panel and bo info on the header pins so one could make up a cable.

Unfortunately, no motherboard manual is available either that would list the pin-out of that header...

Could someone from Acer please post the pin-out of that header?

Thanks,

Peter

here's the pin details of Onboard Serial and parallel Port Header.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊

You can use the COM port to connect serial devices such as mice or fax/modems.You'll need a serial cable (like a 9-pin male-to-male) to connect it to a device that also has a serial port. It uses a standard DB9 or DB25 connector, with the pinout following the RS-232 standard for data transmission and control signals.

You'll likely need a DB9 to DB9 null modem cable. If the DB9 to DB9 cable is not available, you might consider using a DB9 to 3.5mm stereo plug serial cable, which can be used for out-of-band management tasks.

You'll need software that can communicate through a serial port. Examples include terminal programs (like PuTTY or HyperTerminal) or applications that have serial port functionality.

    Thanks for the reply!

I am familiar with RS-232 communication, the DB9 and DB25 connectors, and how and when to use a null modem cable.

I would like to install a DB9 connector on the back panel of the computer and connect that to the serial port on the mother board. Physically the serial port on the mother board is a header connector. I would like to know the pin-out of that header connector on the mother board so that I could make up a cable from the mother board to a back panel DB9 connector.

Last time when I installed a parallel port connector on my computer someone from Acer was kind enough to provide similar information on the mother board parallel port header connector pin-out. A simple internal flat cable with a header connector at one end and a DB25 connector at the other end worked. Hopefully the same is true for the serial port as well.

    Thanks, Peter

Thank you very much for the info, very helpful!

Based on this I can make a cable for the back panel.

The pinouts are actually quite standard, so you should be able to purchase a cable with appropriate bracket premade.
