Hello everyone,

I need some assistance regarding a dual boot and BIOS issue.

I attempted to set up a dual boot system with Windows and Linux. Both operating systems worked individually, depending on which one I set as the primary boot option. However, Windows did not recognize Linux in its boot menu, while Linux detected Windows but failed to boot it, displaying an error: "failed to open image."

The real issue occurred when I tried to fix this problem using rEFInd. After installing rEFInd and following the tutorial instructions to restart the system, my laptop has now become unresponsive (bricked).

When I power it on, the keyboard backlight and fans turn on, but the screen remains black, and the Acer logo does not appear. Additionally, none of the BIOS key combinations work, making it impossible to access the BIOS.

Do you have any suggestions on how I could resolve this issue, or is my only option to take it to a repair service?

My laptop model is nitro anv15-41

Thank you in advance for your help!

To reset your Acer laptop using the battery reset pinhole, first ensure the laptop is turned off and unplugged from the AC adapter. Locate the battery reset pinhole on the bottom of your laptop, usually marked with a battery icon. Using a small paperclip or a similar object, press and hold the reset button inside the pinhole for about 5 seconds. After releasing the button, wait for approximately 5 minutes before plugging in the AC adapter and powering on your laptop.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊

If the above mentioned power reset doesn't work try the below troubleshooting steps. The system might be prioritizing the wrong boot device (Windows or Linux bootloader) or failing to recognize the bootable media. Incorrect UEFI/BIOS settings (like Secure Boot, boot order, or Fast Startup) can prevent the system from booting correctly. The bootloader (Windows or Linux) might have been corrupted during the dual-boot process. If you're using GRUB as the bootloader, it might be misconfigured or corrupted, preventing the system from displaying the boot menu. In rare cases, the issue could be a hardware problem with the display, RAM, or other components.

Press F2 key to key to access the BIOS/UEFI. if you can enter the BIOS/UEFI and navigate to the boot order settings.
Ensure that the correct boot device (Windows or Linux bootloader) is set as the primary boot option.
If you are attempting to boot from a USB, ensure it is set as the primary boot device.

If you are using GRUB as the bootloader, try reinstalling it from the Linux installation media.
Boot into the Linux installation media and run the sudo grub-install /dev/sdX command (replace /dev/sdX with the correct disk device).

Connect an external monitor to the laptop and see if the screen displays anything. If none of the above steps work, the issue might be a hardware problem, and you might need to take the laptop to a repair shop or contact Acer support at Acer Support & Service.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊
