Docking station draining battery while power is turned off (Acer Swift GO 14)SFG14-73

Hi,

I'm a fresh user of Acer Swift GO 14 (SFG14-73) laptop. As I migrate among several places I purchased TB4 docking station which works perfectly for my needs but I spotted one problem which I'm unable to resolve.

The docking station itself has no switch to turn it off so I have external power switch to turn the dock off. I realized that after shutting the dock its power my laptop starts to feed the dock with power from its battery even the laptop is completely turned off. So when I turn my dock off same as my laptop my laptop battery is being drained because the power goes through TB4 in reverse back to my dock. Is there any way how to avoid that? I don't want to be unplugging TB4 port every day to stop draining my laptop battery. The BIOS has nothing related to this matter. As I have 2 TB4 ports it would be great to be able to shut the feeding out off on one of those.

Thank you very much

Hi, in Acer Quick Access there is the Power-off USB charging, if there is no Quick Access for your model, check Acer QuickPanel or AcerSense for this option. The Modern Standby protocol can also cause USB charging after shutdown, make sure that you have the new BIOS version 1.18 dated 2025/03/07 and that Windows11 is fully updated. Disable Fast Startup and Hibernate in "Change what closing the lid does" and in "Change settings currently unavailable" . In Device Manager USB Controllers, disable power management-allow to wake the computer for the 2 USB4 ports (default setting, see picture) but allow to turn off to save power.

    Hi Purow,

thanks a lot for your swift response. I've run through all your steps as follows:

    1. BIOS was upgraded to version 1.18
    2. I opened AcerSense and under "Personal Settings" found "Power-off USB Charger". I turned this option off even I'm not sure if this can be turned off as power-off turned off means (in a logic way) power-on. If I turn it on I can only limit charging using battery power but unfortunately it stops charging when battery is drained down to 10, 20 or 30%. Having the option of 90% would solve my problem.
    3. Windows are updated
    4. I disabled "Fast Startup" in "Change what closing the lid does". Hibernate was not selected by default.
    5. I unticked "Allow this device to wake the computer" for both TB4 USBs. I'm unable to tick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" as that one is greyed out same as on your snap pic.

Unfortunately none of these actions led to stopping the TB4 USB ports charging while the computer is switched off.
