My computer is an515-58. I used snid to look up device information.

It should be able to support the Thunderbolt 4 protocol, but i can't find thunderbolt controller in device manager.

I used hwinfo to further check my device. You will find that port2 is the usbc interface. It shows no device connect(but actually there is a device connect with my laptop in port2)

Then I tried to connect with my phone. It can be connected normally, but the driver displayed is a usb driver.

So, where is the thunderbolt controller and how can I connect a thunderbolt-based device?😭

It sounds like your Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58 laptop is not recognizing a Thunderbolt device connected via USB-C. Here are some possible causes and solutions:

    1. Check if Your USB-C Port Supports Thunderbolt

    • The Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58 has a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port, but no Thunderbolt support.
    • Solution: If you're trying to use a Thunderbolt 3/4 device, it won't work because your laptop does not support Thunderbolt.

    2. Check USB-C Compatibility

    • If your device is USB-C (not Thunderbolt), make sure it is supported.
    • Solution: Try another USB-C device to check if the port is working.

    3. Update Drivers & Firmware

    • Go to Device Manager → Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers → Right-click USB Root Hub → Click Update driver.
    • Update chipset drivers from Acer’s official website.
    • If using an external dock or adapter, update its firmware from the manufacturer’s website.

    4. Enable USB-C in BIOS

    • Restart the laptop and enter BIOS (press F2 during boot).
    • Look for Thunderbolt / USB settings and enable them if available.

    5. Use a Certified Cable

    • Some cables only support charging but not data or video.
    • Solution: Use a high-quality USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 cable.

    6. Try Different Ports

    • If your device supports USB-A to USB-C, try using a different port.

If you're trying to use a Thunderbolt device, unfortunately, it won't work since the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58 lacks Thunderbolt support. Let me know if you need help with a specific device!
