I have four old Acer Aspire Laptops that I want to upgrade the BIOS at the very least on. Can I still find them on here somewhere. Planning on upgrading the hardware as much as I can and then donating them to someone less fortunate. E1-731-4699 PB71305, 5250-0450 P5WE6, 5253-BZ481 P5WE6, 5736Z-4460 PEW72.

Okay. So how did you find that because when I was trying to input the model numbers and stuff it was giving me an error message. How do I find that for the other three laptop models? Does the updater download all of the drivers automatically instead of having to download them each individually?

Okay. So I figured out how to find the other ones (probably not the way that you would've told me to) but do I have to install the bios updated in order or can I just skip to the latest and install that?

I don't suppose you know which one is the Intel XTU Extension Device Driver? Apparently I need Version 7.3.0.0 and can't find it anywhere.

It's not letting me update the BIOS. It's giving me an error message about secure boot. But not only that it's saying that I have to start with 1.x which (1.17) is the one that I'm on.

Try the version 1,28 first and see if that installs, then try the 2.30 version, otherwise take a caption and sow us what the Insyde bios flash error is.

There was no version 1.28 there. Only 1.17, 2.28, and 2.30.

Check that your SATA Mode Control the mode in which the SATA controller should operate. AHCI or IDE laptop that its in AHCI mode and not IDE mode > @ BIOS > Main > SATA Mode > AHCI which "Controls the mode in which the SATA controller should operate" as there are two settings > AHCI or IDE" as that could affect the 2.xx bios updates also.

If you haven't replaced the RTC/BIOS battery replace the battery as after 13 years this laptop needs a new battery, then and after you take the old battery out, shot the plug +&- pins to reset CMOS and leave the latop without ram and main battery overnight, as this is a hard rest and then reflash the bios and see if the bios updates. Also, it could be that the bios chip is too old as the Aspire E1-731 was released in 2012 and the bios chip could be faulty and can't be updated, and will need a new bios chip.

Its also very wise to search the web and enquire from retailers that sell and program these chips if they have an Aspire E1-731 bios chip replacement for sale and ask them what bios version they sell their new bios chip for the E1-731 laptop with.

Here is a retailer on eBay "BIOS CHIP: ACER ASPIRE ES1-731 ES1-731G ES1-731P ES1-731PG" that sells these bios chips and could also sell a bios chip for the Aspire E1-731, so enquire with them as there are allot of bios chip retailers on eBay. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Yeah. The SATA should be at whatever the default setting was and if the CMOS battery isn't easily accessible from the bottom cover then I probably haven't done it yet.

I just tore it down even though the CMOS battery wasn't dead and checked the battery and it was at 1.3V. I think I'm going to leave it apart until I can find the right bios and maybe another more powerful processor and then I'll flash the BIOS chip with my raspberry pi 5 if I have to and then put it all back together again. If I do end up having to use my pi do I still have to do it in order or can I just skip right to the latest?
