Predator P05-640 Bios does not see the hard drives

I have a pre built Predator P05-640. The factory SSD boots flawlessy. When I connect an external USB hard drive after booting, it works just fine.

But if I try to boot the computer after connecting the external hard drive, the computer insists on booting from the external hard drive which does not have Booting capabilities.

Nor can I bring up the booting choice menu.

The BIOS boot menu shows that Hard Drive comes before external devices BUT the BIOS does not show ANY hard drive, so I cannot change the actual drive booting priority.

I searched this forum and googled the problem and I see advice on checking the SATA cable or trying different SATA ports, but the two HD (original SATA SSD and external USB drive) are perfectly working, except that since they don't show up in the BIOS, I cannot change the booting priorities.

I intend to add a 2nd internal SSD but I want to make sure I can chose what to boot from.

Pleae advise.

Thank you

Your system has a UEFI BIOS, so it uses Windows Boot Manager to choose the boot order, not the BIOS itself. If you enable the boot menu in the BIOS, then use F10 at boot it should give you a menu for all boot environments. Just select the internal SSD as the boot device and it will be the default in WBM from then on.

@billsey Thank you for your prompt answer.

When I brought up the BIOS (DEL) "1st Boot Device" is set to "Hard Disk", with no "Window Boot Manager" option to chose from.

Then I exited and tried to bring up the boot menu (F12) and got a blank screen.

But When I entered BIOS again I got "1st Boot Device" set to "Window Boot Manager" without me doing anything special.

Then I exited and tried again to bring up the boot menu (F12) and again I got a blank screen.

Finally I brought up the BIOS again "1st Boot Device" was again set to "Hard Disk", again, without me doing anything else, and again, changing to "Window Boot Manager" was not an option.

"Boot Menu" was always toggled ON.

I am really baffled, what you say makes sense but my computed behaviour does not.

    Any other suggestion?

Should I switch off "Boot Menu"(without losing the option to go back to BIOS)?

    Thanks

Yeah, that doesn't make much sense. It should stay at Windows Boot Manager always and priority should only kick in when the EFI load is failing from the default. Try doing a reset to defaults in the BIOS (F9) then save and exit (F10) and retry to see if stays stable with WBM…
